Reflexology
is the practice of applying pressure to the feet and hands utilizing specific thumb, finger and hand techniques (with or without
the use of oil, cream or lotion) to reflex points, acupressure points and meridians on the feet and hands, to effect physical
changes to correlating systems and locations on the body. As the pressure techniques
are applied to the feet or hands, the body’s nervous system responds by relaxing.
This reduces the “flight or fight” stimulus that affects the adrenal glands and allows for overall improved
circulation. The tension level in the hands and feet correspond to the tension
levels in the rest of the body, and can be easily accessed to interrupt the stress signal and help to reset homeostasis –
balance – in the body. Reflexology is complementary to standard medical care.
